Penny Wise has been owned and operated by members of the Rosati family since 1948. Family members placed the photo at some time between 1948 and 1962, when the building was remodeled. The building had an unusual layout. The display window on the right was not connected to the store. A staircase behind the window led up to the beauty shop upstairs.

The identity of the stylishly dressed woman in the photo is not known.

A Look Back appears every other week in The Pinnacle. More photos like this one as well as local memorabilia, documents and artifacts are on display at the San Benito County Historical Museum, located in the Wapple house at Fifth and West streets. Museum hours are 1-3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday and admission is free.
