HOLLISTER
Victor Gomez has won a decisive victory in the race for the Hollister City Council District 5 seat, pulling in 44.6 percent of the vote in a three-candidate race, according to unofficial results.
The political newcomer and franchise owner of the local Papa Murphy’s had received 603 votes, according to unofficial results released around 2 a.m. Sheriff’s office Lt. Roy Iler came in second with 395 votes, or 29.2 percent, while local architect and Planning Commissioner David Huboi got 345 votes, or 25.5 percent, according to the unofficial results to be canvassed by the elections department this week. There were eight votes, or 0.6 percent, for write-in candidates.
In victory, Gomez overcame a spending disadvantage, as he had raised the least amount of money among the three candidates in the latest campaign finance reports.
Gomez could not be reached immediately before publication.
