Jacobsen wins Reserve World title
Amanda Jacobsen and her horse, Tinkys Graceful Plan (just “Gracie” to her friends) recently competed in the 2006 Pinto World Championships in Tulsa, Okla., and returned to her Hollister home with the reining class 2006 Pinto Reserve Championship for youth 14-18.
Jacobsen, 18, is the daughter of Jeffrey and Linda Jacobsen. She is a sophomore at San Jose State University.
Jacobsen’s partnership with her horse is the result of five years of training, raising her filly from birth. She made weekly trips to train with Ron Emmons in Lodi before leaving on the 3,632-mile round-trip journey to Oklahoma.
The day Gracie foaled on the Jacobsen’s ranch in February 2001, the then-13-year-old Jacobsen began working with her. She worked with trainer Sheri Barnard of Watsonville until last spring, when she began making the weekly trips to Lodi.
The night of the championship competition was stormy, with thunder and rain pouring down outside. Sixteen competitors and their mounts faced three judges.
When the judges announced Jacobsen’s win, she gave Gracie a big hug, and whispered “thank-you” to her mother and trainer Barnard, who were watching from the rail.
