place a tax initiative on the November ballot that would increase
the current local sales tax by 1 cent.
The City of Hollister is currently taking steps in an effort to place a tax initiative on the November ballot that would increase the current local sales tax by 1 cent.
Don’t look now, but in five weeks there will be an election. On the state level, there will be a governor’s race to vote on, as well as a long list of propositions.
Locally, as always, this will be a big election. Between school boards, city council, supervisor, sales tax and general plan amendment proposals, voters will have to be on their toes to be informed going into the voting booth.
This is where the San Benito County Farm Bureau steps in to help. The Bureau is hosting two forums that will provide residents a chance to get to know the candidates and the issues. We urge everyone to attend.
Both forums will be held at the Hollister City Council Chambers at 375 Fifth Street. Both will begin at 6:30pm.
The first is Wednesday, Oct. 18. This will feature county supervisor candidates for the 4th District – Tracie Cone and incumbent Reb Monaco; District 17 Senate candidates; Assembly candidates; school board candidates; and local measures.
The second forum will be Oct. 19. This will feature city council and water district candidates.
We urge everyone who has an interest in the democratic process to attend. For more information, call the Farm Bureau at 637-7643.
