Dear Editor,
I would like to be quoted concerning the statements by supervisors of San Benito County concerning “investors” in the casino.
Finances in the past have not been a part of the application for permits or approval of development or projects and businesses. The success or failure of the development or project may be a concern, but I don’t think it should be a part of the decision.
I recommend the supervisors and other officials refrain from making comments concerning the financial investment for or against the casino, or any other project or developments. It is not the board of supervisors’ or other officials’ responsibility to review prospectus, projections or business plans. This is left to financial advisors. The projects should be weighed on its own merit according to customary, reasonable and ordinary studies and impacts, i.e. traffic, infrastructure, environmental, services, fire, water, etc.
The casino is an unusual development due to the state involvement. The comments should be as a result of studies and sound data and information from other casinos similar to our population, employment needs, housing needs, economic needs. Furthermore, the comments from the studies should be formal, unbiased and report negative and positive impacts. This would be the best way for the officials and constituents to come to a sound decision about this and other projects and developments.
