Editor,
While I agree that it is sad that Dorothy McNett has closed her shop, it really doesn’t surprise me.
Shopping downtown is an absolute nightmare, and the number one reason is the traffic. Even driving at 25 miles per hour, it is impossible to browse the sidewalks and read the storefronts. And if you do decide to get out of your car to shop, you take your life in your hands as traffic will zip by you at well over the speed limit.
The solution for this is already in the works, and it is the Highway 25 bypass. Once that is complete, the only people downtown are people who want to be downtown, and the traffic and atmosphere will improve greatly.
I strongly urge any existing downtown business to hold on until the bypass is finished. Only then will the true potential of downtown Hollister be shown.
