Thanks to the present board of supervisors for their service to
San Benito County.
Thanks to the present board of supervisors for their service to San Benito County. We have a lot to look forward to in the next four years under new leadership; an unprecedented opportunity for prosperity and improving our quality of life. The cornerstone of this pursuit should be improving the local economy by developing roads, water and sewer conveyances in order to attract new businesses. The new Board of Supervisors should strengthen alliances with the San Benito County Water District, the Gavilan College Board, the San Benito County Business Council and Chambers of Commerce. We need to make progress improving our school system, encourage college education and develop corporate partnerships and apprenticeship programs. We need to recognize SBCWD as the lead agency to improve municipal and industrial water quality, confer with the Economic Development Corporation for reliable data about attracting new industries and defer to the business community to champion the growth of our economy. Let’s envision a new San Benito College or university, a new state-of-the-art hospital and new job opportunities that will complement our agricultural traditions.
We must insist that the new board encourage public input, civil discourse and democratic methods of public policy debate and discourage finger-pointing, mud-slinging and name-calling that has divided our community. The voting public has made its voice made clear. We the people are calling for sweeping change at the county level and we will not tolerate the subversion of our right to vote on controversial matters.
Finally, we must remain vigilant of county government to facilitate a smooth transition into a new administration next January. There is a new sense of confidence and optimism for the future of San Benito County. Let’s build a community where citizens desire to work and socialize together, a community that will support future generations and provide for the needs of the elderly. Let’s encourage every citizen to pitch in and get involved in the realization of our potential as a community.
