Dear Editor,
Unfortunately, the recent Free Lance “thumbs down” opinion on the “street crossing fiasco developing at San Benito High School” puts little or no accountability on past decisions by the high school district, which have aggravated the fiasco.
It was not the residents of Hollister who made the decision to expand the campus southwest of Nash Road. Residents knew there were no alternative by-pass routes planned in the near future.
After this decision was made, who changed the original plan of the expansion from being a self-contained freshman campus which would have minimized student crossings? Who decided to install rumble strips on a public road without consulting local residents? Why didn’t the high school district address student safety on Nash Road prior to implementing this expansion?
Let’s teach accountability to our administrators and district decision makers in the same way teachers teach students accountability.
