“I believe what the county Supervisors did to Denny Madigan was a railroad job and I appreciate your column in the newspaper because this is what happens when someone speaks out or speaks things different than the people in power.
As a county employee and having a small business also on the side in San Benito County, this column gives me an opportunity to speak out without having my business hurt, which in the past in my job with county, my speaking out or doing the wrong thing has hurt my business. As this deal with Denny Madigan is a prime example of that, just because he put an ad in your newspaper soliciting information to help do a better job as a planning commissioner.
His own supervisor for his district felt he was good enough to be on there and still voted to keep him on there. Four other supervisors felt they were being looked up. To be honest, as a county employee, everything needs to be looked at down there, especially anything to do with the supervisors or the planning commission.
It’s typical of small San Benito County, if you are on the wrong side of speaking out, you’re going to get hammered by those that can. It may not be today. It may not be tomorrow, but they will get you, and this a prime example of we will get you.
Thank you for the opportunity for people like me to talk and not fear for our jobs or livelihood.”
“Pleeeze help! Why is the U.S. bombing the hell out of Iraq, then spending billions to rebuild the country? Remember the World Trade Center Towers which once dominated the Manhattan skyline? Who’s helping us rebuild?
What does Saddam Hussein have to do with it? Osama bin Laden took care of the towers so why is he not being hunted? This whole issue was never about the towers, but about Bush and his oil! Sad.”
“Thanks for creating the Citizens Voice column, finally something interesting to read in the Free Lance. I think I’ll keep my subscription after all. The paper is making changes, and that is not always easy for people to get use to, but status quo was getting you nowhere. The Free Lance was down to about three local new articles per issue.
I got more local news while having lunch downtown than what the newspaper printed.
I think everyone needs to take all the comments and opinions that appear in the Citizens Voice in context and not get their shorts in a bunch. Everyone is entitled to their opinion; some are educational, some entertaining, some thought provoking and some written by complete boneheads. But take them in stride, and if possible, learn something from them and most important be grateful you live in a country that allows the freedom of speech.
You may lose some subscriptions because of this column and some of the changes you’ve made, but in the long run I’ll bet you gain more new readers.”
“Zeke has a good idea. I’d pay a hundred dollars a minute to see Cantu clean the canvas up with John Sarsfield. By the way, Zeke Lopez is a long-time local hero of mine. This guy does more for our kids than any 10 cops. If you have a few extra bucks to spare, his boxers could use it.
Captain Bob Brooks said, ‘It wouldn’t be prudent to put in the newspaper what the cops are doing and what we’re looking for, putting potential suspects on alert.” Wow…I always see gang-bangers standing on the corners checking the Free Lance for the cops itinerary and assignments. Captain Bob: let them know what you’re doing and you might prevent a crime…Proactive versus Reactive, what a novel idea.
Question: Why isn’t Councilperson Pauline Valdivia angry about not being told about the gang violence in her district?”
