Four local teenagers sustained minor injuries when their car ran off the road and crashed through a fence on Cienega Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Herman Rivas Jr., 18, of Hollister was treated at Hazel Hawkins Hospital for multiple cuts and a complaint of pain in his back.

Two girls, ages 15 and 14, who were passengers in Rivas’ vehicle also went to Hazel Hawkins Hospital. The younger girl was treated for a broken nose and complaint of pain to her left wrist and the older girl was treated for complaint of pain to her chest and several cuts and bruises, the CHP said. The girls’ names were not released because of their ages.

A 16-year-old boy who was also in Rivas’ car reportedly sustained a bloody nose, a cut on his lip and a black eye. He refused treatment and sought medical treatment on his own, the CHP said.

The youths were all injured in an early-morning accident on Cienega Road near Ashford Circle when Rivas was northbound on Cienega in a 2001 Honda Civic at about 1:10 a.m. The CHP said he was driving too fast for the conditions and failed to negotiate a curve.

Rivas’ vehicle skidded off the road and through the dirt-and-gravel shoulder before it struck a barbed-wire fence near Hidden Valley Ranch, the CHP said. After ripping up about 30 feet of fence, the car stopped in the middle of a field.

Although the vehicle had been removed from the scene before the CHP arrived, Rivas told officers he had been drinking alcohol earlier in the evening, the CHP said. Officers determined Rivas was not under the influence of alcohol, however, the CHP said.
