Editor,

I would like to congratulate Free Lance reporter Brett Rowland for presenting an objective article on the discussion of the theory of evolution as science and intelligent design, a religious and philosophical viewpoint.

Like creationism and scientific creation before it, intelligent design is a wholly concocted new attempt by Christian biblical fundamentalist to introduce religion into the science curriculum. Like a wolf in sheep’s clothes, intelligent design has no scientific data to support it unlike pastor Jim Achilles claim that “(intelligent design is) one that is firmly supported by scientific evidence.”

If reporter Rowland had asked Mr. Achilles this question, the answer would have been the same as if it were creationism or scientific creation, “Mr. Achilles, would you please show me the scientific data to support your claim that intelligent design is good science?”

Philip Johnson, a retired law professor turned Christian biblical fundamentalist, invented the intelligent design term in 1996, and stated, “This isn’t really, and never has been, a debate about science. It’s about religion and philosophy.” Well said, Mr. Johnson.

So I commend the pubic education representatives who take the correct constitutional stand when rightly refusing to teach religious intelligent design within the science curriculum framework.
