Dear Editor,

The five county supervisors announced their opposition of the proposed casino. “Just a few weeks ago, the board specified the process that they wanted us to follow and we have been following the board designated,” stated Gary Ramos, Miwok project manager.

Basically you all agreed to receive further written proposal for review from this organization and now you decide with no further discussion ” We Oppose this deal.” You are true business professionals (Not).

Wake up people. This deal isn’t rocket science. You have the opportunity to negotiate the highest revenue return for this county and city. Less than a year ago, this entire town was up in arms about the high percentage of city workers losing there jobs due to the impacts from the cutbacks of our state’s funding. We are in a critical financial situation, and guess what? Our governor isn’t going to write us a check, and, no, the good old days are not coming back. If we have a business coming into San Benito County/Hollister willing to be our partners providing us with financial solutions, then we should be thanking them. One thousand to 2,000 jobs locally, and investors have pledged at least $10 million a year to local governments.

I don’t hear Cisco, Oracle or General Mills planning on bringing their business to Hollister. Wait. That’s it. If it was one of these companies, the vote would read, ” The five county supervisors approve proposed companies coming into Hollister !” Some folks would perhaps read this as prejudicial case.

When you receive the next proposal from a business to build in this county for their financial needs and minimal return and you plan to approve, I would keep in mind what you did to the Miwok Tribe when they attempted to build their business in San Benito County/Hollister.

Please consider support and finances for the following the next time you meet on this project: Airport, hospital, schools, public safety, sewer and water, roads, parks, county and city employees, county and city services.

By the way, 5,000 signatures doesn’t make up the majority of this county. And how many people take a Farm Bureau poll? For real results put this item on the ballot.
