The Hollister Dog Owners Group is laying plans for its first-ever “Dog Days of Hollister” event, set for May 30 at Dunne Park.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the park at West and Sixth streets will be filled with vendors and demonstrations.

A pooch parade, costume contest, canine good citizen testing and a variety of contests also are planned. A Dog Days King and Queen also will be crowned.

All well-behaved dogs over 6 months old and their owners are welcome at the event.

According to HDOG, Dog Days is a celebration of dogs, intended to promote responsible dog ownership.

Prizes will be awarded for best bark, so ugly they’re cute, waggiest tail, closest resemblance between dog and owner and funniest pet trick.

Owners may sign their dogs up for a variety of competitions at a tent near the park entrance on the day of the event.

Pet-related groups will include a Rescue Row of adoptable pets.

Tickets to the event are $3 for adults, or $2 with a dog food donation. Children 12 and under are free.

Dog Days is being presented in cooperation with the Hollister Downtown Association and the Gavilan Kennel Club.

Dogs must be on a solid leash at all times, and proof of current rabies vaccination is required.

HDOG is soliciting sponsorship donations by May 1.
