Before the battles got under way at the annual Tres Pinos Civil War Days at the San Benito County Historical Park students from local schools had a chance to visit the park to interact with many of the volunteer reenactors Sept. 16.

The students learned about the weapons used during the time of the war, such as cannons and guns, as well as the types of fashions they wore. They also learned how some daily chores, such as washing clothes, required a lot more effort than they do today.

The Civil War Days event was open to the general public Sept. 17 and 18, for two days of battle and other reenactments. The event is put on by the National Civil War Association.
