Carole Willette reads holiday books to Claudia St. John, 3, and James Klein, 5, during the annual holiday program presented by the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library.

The San Benito County Free Library held its annual holiday celebration Dec. 13, with more than 400 residents attending. The afternoon event featured a holiday story time, arts and crafts and a chance for children to meet with Santa. Parents were encouraged to bring their own cameras to take a picture of their child with Santa.

The Friends of the San Benito County Free Library group was able to secure a grant that allowed them to give out 300 books to the children who attended the celebration.

“It was difficult, but we still had it,” said Nora Conte, the county librarian, of offering the program with less resources. “Through a grant we were able to give each child who entered the door a book to add to a home library or to start a home library.”
