Augie Garcia, an American Red Cross volunteer, talks to families about emergency preparedness as part of Audrey Liddle's 4-H All-Star Project.

Audrey Liddle, a nine-year member of San Benito County 4-H, completed her All-Star Project March 16 at Tres Pinos School.

For her project, she arranged a disaster preparedness event at the school for local families. She worked with Augie Garcia, a volunteer from the American Red Cross, for a few months to design the event. They discussed the main things families would need to do to prepare for an earthquake, fire or other disasters.

On March 16, Garcia spoke with families on how to prepare, including advice on assembly a first-aid and supply kit as well as making a plan. The items he suggested for a supply kit included a flashlight, a battery-powered radio, water, food and an emergency blanket. Garcia also talked about the activities the American Red Cross supports in the community, such as blood drives, responding to disasters and promoting emergency preparedness.
