Anzar High wrapped up its girls and boys basketball seasons Saturday as the Hawk girls were clipped at home by Pacific Grove 38-25 and the boys were doused by the first-place Breakers 71-32 in P.G.

Boys coach Claire Dietz sat out the final game because he was ejected two games earlier. Dietz was allowed to coach in the Hawks’ (5-19, 2-12 Mission Trail Athletic League) game in King City.

“I had to drive the kids and I was down there,” said Dietz. “Darned if I was going to sit outside for three hours. The league rep said I might as well coach the game. I’m glad I coached because the game was more competitive than the P.G. game.”

Paul Lerma’s girls were led by Amanda Link’s 16 points. Suzie Garcia added seven.

“We were happy with our season,” said Lerma. “We set a goal to be competitive in league and we won four league games and made history. Next year we hope to do a little better.”

The Hawks’ three seniors, Megan Lerma, Heidi Rivera and Cory Strasser, played their final game for Anzar.

The Hawk girls finished 7-17 overall and 4-12 in league.
