A 49-year-old Aromas man was killed and his 15-year-old son was sent to the hospital after a collision with another car, driven by a woman who was arrested for suspicion of DUI, in an unincorporated part of Watsonville 6:10 p.m. Monday.
The man and his son were traveling on Carlton Road in a 2000 Harley Davidson Motorcycle when they collided with a 51-year-old woman from Freedom driving a 1992 Toyota Camry, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Gavin Hansen. The vehicles were traveling in opposite directions before the collision, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The woman was northbound on the road, heading toward Thompson Road, and the man was traveling south. She was treated for minor injuries but was arrested when officers suspected she was driving drunk.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his son was sent to the Watsonville hospital with moderate injuries, Hansen said.
The CHP blocked off the roadway for three hours, diverting traffic to nearby Highway 129, Hansen said. The debris from the accident was spread across both lanes on Carlton Road.
