The Aromas-San Juan school district is getting a new school bus.
Trustees of the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District voted 5-0 in favor of purchasinga new 82-passenger bus in the 2015-16 school year during their regularly scheduled board meeting last week.
The move costs $170,000 and replaces an existing bus in the district’s fleet.
“What we’re doing is we’re replacing old buses,” said Superintendent Ruben Zepeda. “Our buses go back to 1996 and the life span of a bus is 10 to 12 years. And we’re past that already… So it’s time for us to retire a bus.”
The purchase will be funded with $154,415 from state funds allocated to the district for “school bus replacement” in the 2014-15 school year and $15,585 from next school year’s transportation budget.
