Hollister – The San Benito County Arts Council, a nonprofit advocacy organization, is holding its first public fundraising event in order to help establish community programs to promote the arts in San Benito County.

The event, titled: “An Evening of Jazz: a Prologue for the Arts,” will include a benefit concert featuring the Kyle Eastwood Band at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister on June 15 at 7pm.

Kyle Eastwood is the son of the famous actor/director Clint Eastwood who, along with wife Dina Ruiz Eastwood, will be invited to attend this event.

The Kyle Eastwood Band has enjoyed worldwide popularity due to its recently released album “Now” and global touring of Asia, Europe and the United States. The album is a collection of songs ranging from the post-modern jazz modalities of the title track, to the flirtatious melodies of “Let’s Play” to the moody electronic groove of “September Nights.”

The arts council was formed to fill a gap in cultural appreciation and improve artistic awareness in San Benito County. In 2005, county supervisor Jaime De La Cruz traveled to the California Arts Council in Sacramento to learn how to garner the resources to establish a new arts council.

Local interest spread with San Juan Bautista attorney Dan DeVries providing pro bono legal services to incorporate the nascent nonprofit organization. DeVries also serves on the board of directors.

In 2006 the San Benito County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the San Benito County Arts Council as the official local arts agency and state local partner in order to help secure future grants.

The arts council is actively seeking tax deductible sponsorships and donations for its programming and this event in particular. Such sponsorships and donations have enabled the arts council to hire Sharlene Van Rooy as executive director. Van Rooy will be responsible for establishing future arts programs and help coordinate existing arts events throughout the county.

The Arts Council was recently awarded a grant from the City of Hollister Redevelopment Agency to work in partnership with the Hollister Downtown Association to produce arts programming in the downtown area. Plans for future arts programs include two murals, three free summer concerts and a student film festival.

Tickets for this special event are $45 each. General admission seating is limited and tickets are only available online at www.sanjuanoaks.com or by calling 831.636.6118. This event is expected to sell out early. The community is encouraged to join the San Benito County Arts Council and support the local Arts by purchasing tickets to “An Evening of Jazz: a Prologue for the Arts.”
