Dear Editor:
The Hollister in Black pacifist group had a sign displayed very
prominently at its June 6 vigil on the corner of Fourth and San
Benito streets. I do not remember the exact wording. It was
something like SEEK PEACE
– WORK FOR JUSTICE. I certainly have no problem with that.
However, I do have a problem with their parent group Women in
Black.
Dear Editor:
The Hollister in Black pacifist group had a sign displayed very prominently at its June 6 vigil on the corner of Fourth and San Benito streets. I do not remember the exact wording. It was something like SEEK PEACE – WORK FOR JUSTICE. I certainly have no problem with that. However, I do have a problem with their parent group Women in Black.
The Women in Black was recently nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. If they receive such an honor, it would be equivalent to Jimmy Carter winning the Nobel Peace Prize for his excellent work preventing North Korea from developing nuclear weapons. Way to go Jimmy.
The history of the Women in Black can be found on the Internet if you go deep enough.
The organization began in Israel almost 25 years ago. It consisted of Palestine women in their black habits protesting against Israel. Ultra orthodox Jews who believe Israel should not exist soon joined them, also in black.
Their organization spread to Bosnia. They received a big boost when Mr. (Bill) Clinton sent American planes, with NATO markings, into Bosnia to bomb the Christians and save the Moslems. (Was 9-11 the pay back?) And we still have U.S. troops there. Way to go Bill.
I have had occasions to talk with several of the Hollister in Black people. They seem to have good intentions even though they are out of touch with reality. However, they choose to identify with, and thus be painted with the same brush as, Women in Black, an anti-Jew, anti-Christian organization with questionable motives toward Israel.
I will continue my association with the Hollister in Black pacifist group at a distance, across Fourth Street on Friday afternoons between 4:15-5:45 p.m. I shall continue to display my red, white, and blue colors and play patriotic music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Come join our small band of flag waving, sign carrying pro-American demonstrators. July 4th is on a Friday this year. That would be a good time.
Marvin L. Jones,
Hollister
