Attendance was up significantly at this year’s San Benito County Fair at Bolado Park. The 86th annual fair brought out 18,300 visitors – a 9.8 percent increase over the 16,600 people who walked through the gates in 2008.
“Which, in this climate with fairs, from the ones I’ve heard from, is good,” said Kelly Ferreira, the county fair manager.
Last year’s attendance dipped somewhat, largely due to rainy conditions on the traditionally busy Saturday, he noted.
Ferreira pointed out a few changes this year, such as an earlier start for the truck pulls Saturday, which helped get people circulating out of the grandstands before the fair closed, he said.
Ferreira also once again talked up a volunteer corps of around 100 people, a number that seems to grow each year.
“I can’t say enough about that,” he said. “It makes my job easier.”
