Dear Editor,

Dear Gilroy City Council, Mayor Al Pinheiro and “Attention Wal-Mart shoppers!” I would like to take a moment to thank those of you for voting in your new Gilroy Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Thank you for supporting a non-union retailer with unfair labor practices. Thanks for supporting extremely bad customer service. Thanks for not supporting your current local city businesses, which will have a direct financial impact and owners possibly will be forced to layoff, reduce employee hours and/or close their doors.

Thanks from many Morgan Hill, Hollister and other local business communities, which will also be losing revenue. Thanks to all of you “Wal-Mart shoppers” for buying and supporting a part-time, low-wage work for Wal-Mart employees, who receive little or no benefits or retirement – many employees are on food stamps and welfare.

I love a good deal on items I buy, but not at places that do not take care of their own employees. Shopping there is telling us all that you support this type of lifestyle and wage in your community, and for that I would like to say, thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart!

Frank Antezzo, Hollister
