Our first Red Phone caller of the week asked the Crimson
Crusader an interesting question about carrying and transporting
alcoholic beverages in her car. Our caller said she was concerned
about the laws regulating such issues and wanted to know
specifically if products containing alcohol must be transported in
a paper or plastic bag.
Our first Red Phone caller of the week asked the Crimson Crusader an interesting question about carrying and transporting alcoholic beverages in her car. Our caller said she was concerned about the laws regulating such issues and wanted to know specifically if products containing alcohol must be transported in a paper or plastic bag.
The Crimson Crusader made a quick call over to the Hollister-Gilroy unit of the California Highway Patrol to find out. The Crimson Crusader spoke with public information officer Chris Armstrong, who was very helpful in answering our caller’s questions. Armstrong said alcohol should be transported in factory-sealed containers in a location that is not accessible to the driver. A bag is not required in the car, Armstrong said. However, it is smart to carry alcohol in a bag when walking to and from the point of purchase to comply with state laws, Armstrong said.
More Cell phone
Disposal Options
Our next Red Phone matter came to the Crimson Crusader’s desk via e-mail from a local reader who wanted to provide Hollister and San Benito County residents with additional information about getting rid of old cell phones. The Crimson Crusader tackled this important problem two weeks ago and gave several suggestions to locals hoping to get rid of their old cell phones.
Our caller said that in addition to the methods listed by the Crimson Crusader, locals could also drop off their old cell phones at the San Benito County Victim Witness Center at 1111 San Felipe Road in Hollister. The Victim Witness Center, located in office No. 108, recycles the phones and receives a small monetary reimbursement for doing so, Victim Witness Advocate Katie Fancher said. The money collected is donated to the Emmaus House battered women’s shelter in Hollister, she said.
Also, the Crimson Crusader was given some helpful information about a Web site that provides information on recycling everything from old cell phones to car batteries. The Web site is www.erecycle.org.
Basic Red Phone
procedure reminders
Our final Red Phone caller left an unintelligible message for the Crimson Crusader. Since the Crimson Crusader could not understand the caller our hero could not address the issue at hand. In the wake of this incident, the Crimson Crusader decided to take a few moments to go over some of the basic Red Phone procedures. Red Phone callers are reminded to speak clearly and calmly when leaving a message for the Crimson Crusader. Our hero also encourages callers to leave their name and phone number in case additional information or clarification is needed. Names and phone numbers are kept confidential and are not released under any circumstances. Callers who choose not to leave a name or number can be assured that their questions and concerns will be addressed promptly.
