“There are 43 kids ranging from 8 to 14 and they’ve been practicing for about two and a half months,” said Pattie Saso, the show’s producer. “Doing a Disney play is fun because you can get a whole lot of different-age kids. Kathy Alveraz, who handles the costuming, researched clothing from the time period of the play, Saso said. They had a challenge in keeping the harem girls’ costumes from being to risque.

“They are covered and it is very classic,” Saso said.

Other challenges included a flying carpet and a very large elephant. Saso said they built the flying carpet on a box that has fog that comes out from underneath it to give the illusion of flying across the stage.

“We wanted to make it unique and put a little different spin on it,” Saso said.

As for the paper mache elephant, set designers were still putting the finishing touches on it Monday before dress rehearsal.

“We are just finalizing a couple of set pieces and decorating the lobby,” Saso said. “It makes it a whole experience as you walk in.”

Director Sally Hail was also putting the final touches on lighting for the show with a friend from Los Angeles who works on sets.

“We are getting a little extra help from someone from the L.A. area,” Saso said.
