Police said this morning they are following leads in the search for the unknown assailant described only as young Hispanic male who fled the scene in a dark-colored Honda.
The victim, whose name was not released by police because of his age, was released from Hazel Hawkins Hospital after being treated for a stab wound to the upper leg, police said.
The attack reportedly missed major arteries and the youth is expected to make a complete recovery, police said.
The stabbing reportedly happened at about 4:12 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 1200 Rancho Drive.
The youth was reportedly leaving his home when he was confronted by an unknown person who asked him if he was a “scrap” – a slang word used for a Soreno gang member, police said.
The youth told the assailant that he was not involved in gangs, which is when his attacker reportedly pulled out a small knife-like weapon slashed out toward the youth and struck him in the leg, police said.
After stabbing the youth, the assailant fled the area, escaping an extensive search of the area by police.
The apparently unprovoked attack was the second stabbing in Hollister in a little more than two weeks.
Investigators are still looking for a suspect wanted in the Nov. 5 stabbing that almost killed a 7-11 clerk who tried to stop a suspect from running off with a 12-pack of beer.
The victim in that incident was stabbed twice, once in the left leg and once in the upper right arm as he chased a thief out of the store, police said.
The suspect had reportedly committed a “beer skip,” running off with a 12-pack of beer without paying.
The clerk chased the suspect out of the store and confronted the suspect, described as a Hispanic male, at the corner of Hawkins and San Benito streets. A fight ensued and the clerk was stabbed with an unknown weapon, police said.
The suspect in the 7-11 stabbing is described as a Hispanic male in his mid 20s who stands about 5-feet 5-inches tall with short, close cut hair except for a round circular patch of hair on the back of his head and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a long sleeve blue shirt, blue jeans and white shoes, police said.
