Arnold Tellez has been hired to take over Presentation High School’s (San Jose) softball program. Tellez most recently served as an assistant for four years at Gilroy High under Manager Catherine Hallada, helping the Mustangs reach the Central Coast Section Division I championship each of the past two seasons.

With Hallada taking over Christopher High’s softball program in the spring and a new coach yet to be named at GHS, Tellez decided to take the Presentation job rather than continuing to be Hallada’s assistant at CHS.

“I’m sad to leave Gilroy because I spent a lot of time there,” Tellez said. “This is my 12th season of coaching and I’m definitely going to miss Gilroy, but I’m excited for the opportunity to be a head coach.”

Tellez said Presentation came in second place behind Archbishop Mitty in the West Catholic Athletic League last season.

“That league is a lot like the [Tri-County Athletic League – it’s a tough league,” he said.

Tellez said he “definitely” plans on trying to schedule games against Gilroy for the coming season.

“We played them the last two years. Unfortunately they beat us both times last year,” he said.

“I’ll definitely get ahold of the Gilroy High coach as soon as they announce that.”
