The Holiday Baseball Camp, under the direction of San Benito High varsity baseball coach Michael Luna, will be held Dec. 19-21 at the Little League fields at Veterans Memorial Park in Hollister.

Boys and girls ages 8-12 (Little League age as of 2010) are welcome to attend. The camp will be conducted in three sessions, including pitching and catching from 10 to 11 a.m.; infield from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and hitting from 12:45 to 2 p.m.

Each session costs $50 of $130 for all three sessions. Limited space is available.

An extra session — hitting games competition — will be from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m., and is limited to 18 players. Cost is $40.

SBHS basketball alumni game scheduled for Dec. 21

The San Benito High basketball program will host an alumni game on Monday, Dec. 21, at Mattson Gym in Hollister.

The women’s alumni game will begin at 5:30 p.m., while the men’s game will follow at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 for each alumni player, and includes a T-shirt. Players can pay at the door.

For spectators, cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

All proceeds will go to the San Benito High basketball’s booster program.

YMCA gauges interest on new programs for 2010

The YMCA of San Benito County is gauging interest on two new programs for 2010 — roller hockey and horseback riding lessons.

Roller Hockey is starting an interest list and will need coaches, referees and participants, with the hope to start the program in the spring — barring interest.

As for horseback riding lessons, there will be an open house in mid-January at the Three Horse Farm. Date and time are to be announced.

Basketball Jones Hoop Camps upcoming in December

Basketball Jones Hoop Camps, a two-day instructional basketball camp, will be held Dec. 30-31 at the Rancho San Justo Middle School in Hollister.

The camp, which is for boys and girls ages 9- to 17-years-old, will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Cost is $85.

San Benito’s all-time leading scorer and Division I basketball player Kyle Sharp will be in attendance as a guest coach.

Little League registrations upcoming

Registration for the 2010 season of Hollister Little League will be held on Jan. 9 for all levels — T-ball through Senior League (ages 15 and 16).

The January registration will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Hall on the corner of Seventh and San Benito streets. Registrants must bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate and medical insurance information, and complete a registration form and volunteer form, which requires a valid photo ID.

Registration fees are $65 for T-ball; $105 for farm, minors or majors; and $130 for the junior or senior leagues (ages 13 and up). Additional player registrations within a family are $70. Only cash, credit and debit cards will be accepted as payment. No checks.

San Juan Oaks Junior Program seeks participants

The San Juan Oaks Golf Club is accepting members in its junior program Club “Boom Boom.” Inspired by San Juan Oaks course designer Fred Couples, the junior program is offered for youth ages 6-17 years old. The benefits include the following:

— Juniors pay $5 for green fees Monday through Friday after 2:30 p.m. with an accompanying adult who pays $35 (cart fees not included), while juniors pay $10 for green fees Saturday, Sunday and on holidays after 2:30 p.m. when playing with an accompanying adult who pays $45 (cart fees not included).

— Members receive $5 off normal junior rate good anytime Monday through Friday.

— Receive a small bucket of range balls for only $2 every day (up to two small buckets per day).

— Junior members receive a 10 percent discount on private golf lessons with San Juan Oaks teaching staff.

— End of the year day-long golf clinic. Aspects covered will be full swing, short game shots, putting and rules seminar followed by a no-host barbecue luncheon (date to be determined by San Juan Oaks management).

— Club “Boom Boom” junior cap with San Juan Oaks logo at time of sign-up.

Bolado Park announces junior golf program

Bolado Park Golf Club announced the Junior Bolado Ball Bashers Club, a golf program open to juniors 17 years of age or younger.
