Tommy Cash is scheduled to play his “Johnny Cash Tribute Show” in honor of his late brother at Bolado Park on March 13.
Newly formed Karco Promotions’ owner Ken Rose, a local resident, is putting on the show at Bolado Park’s Pavilion.
Cash booked the event as part of his international tour. Tickets are $25 and $45, and the capacity is 1,000 people, said Rose, who hopes to move such shows into Bolado’s arena grandstand area by this summer.
Rose got the idea while doing research on different acts for his new promotions company. He has been working on the show for about six months, he said.
“This area was influenced by a lot of his songs,” said Rose, of Tommy’s brother. “I just have a feeling. I don’t think Johnny ever played this area. Bringing Tommy, I just had a feeling.”
Opening the show will be the local group Second Wind Band before Tommy Cash takes the stage to perform, while the tribute includes about 25 Johnny Cash songs, mainly the most recognizable ones, in two 40-minute sets.
There are a couple of local nonprofits also involved in the event. The Hollister Exchange Club is handling the bar, and the Hollister FFA boosters are overseeing the tri-tip sandwiches available for purchase.
Doors are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with Second Wind Band taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. for about 45 minutes before the tribute show.
Tickets are available at Mcabee Feed in Hollister, Mom and Pop’s Saloon and Daisy’s Saloon in San Juan, L.A. Hearne in Prunedale, Elite Barber Shop in Gilroy, Avila’s Market in San Martin and Jeannie’s Hair Shoppe in Tres Pinos.
