RELAY FOR LIFE: A Team Captain’s Meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Paine’s Restaurant on June 2 and June 23.

Work Permits: Pursuant to California Labor Code Mandates, students between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age who plan to work this summer must have a “Permit to Employ and Work” on file with the employer during the term of their employment. Students must apply for these permits at the school they attend. Students under the age of 14 are only allowed to work in agriculture-related or entertainment field. Rural students may obtain work permits through their school principal. Employers without work permits for student employees face potential fines of $100 to $500. San Benito Stage Company: Pre-registration for the San Benito Stage Company’s Children’s Summer Theatre Camp runs through June 15. The fee is $100, with a $10 discount for each additional sibling. The camp runs from Tuesday, July 6 to Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s open to boys and girls ages 6 to 12 years old. Kidz Kamp: Summer is right around the corner and the Kidz Kamp Unlimited is preparing to begin. They are offering a full schedule of weekly themes and once a week field trips in or out of town, crafts, games and enriched experiences in music, theater, dance and creative arts. The camp will start June 13 and end Aug. 21. Kool Kidz Kamp hours will be from 9 to 4 p.m. (extended care is available for no extra charge from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.). Moving Wall: The Hollister Independence Rally Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hollister Post 9242 is announcing the Moving Wall exhibit to be on display at the old Fremont School from June 30 to July 5. The memorial will be open around the clock. HIRC and the VFW are looking for volunteers to help setup the event and the manning of the memorial around the clock. Recycling Bin: The recycling bin behind the Free Lance will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and open Friday through Sunday night.

ROAD OPENINGS: San Benito County Public Works Department will open the seasonal low-water crossing into the San Benito Historical Park at Tres Pinos Creek at 4 p.m. May 17. The department will also open the low-water crossing at Nash Road and San Benito River at 4 p.m. May 19. Both roads will remain open until October of 2004. For more information call 831-636-4170.

HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE: The San Benito County Planning Department will be conducting a series of workshops for the 2001-2008 Housing Element Update. The purpose of the workshops is to receive community input on unmet housing needs in the county. A general workshop on unmet housing needs and current proposed programs will occur at 7 p.m. May 17 in the San Benito County Board Chambers on 481 Fourth Street. A workshop on elderly and disabled housing will occur at 1 p.m. May 18 in the Hollister Community Center on 300 West St. A farmworker workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on May 18 in the county board chambers and at 6 p.m. May 19 in Aromas Grammar School. POWDER PUFF COMPETITION: Students at San Benito High School will hold their seasonal Powder Puff Competition beginning at 5:30 p.m. May 21 at Andy Hardin Field. The four classes of students will compete head-to-head and a dance will follow at 8 p.m. in Mattson Gym. Tickets cost $3 with the ASB stamp, $4 with a SBHS ID card, $5 general admission and $2 for children under 12.

SWEET HEART DANCE: Will be held for adults 21 and older starting at 5:30 p.m. May 22 in Bolado Park. The event will feature music from the 60s, 70s and 80s and the band Shaboom. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and tickets are available for $25. Call 801-0903 for more information.

Appreciation Day: Hollister United Methodist church is sponsoring a “Judy Rider Appreciation Day” from noon to 3 p.m. May 22 at Gate 4 of Bolado Park. EARS FUND-Raiser: Elephants of Africa Rescue Society is hosting a fund-raiser at the event facility at Wild Things in Salinas on Saturday, May 22.
