Gavilan Small Business workshop: “Workplace Skills in a Retail Environment” workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 19 at the Gavilan College SBDC office at the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church Street, Bldg E., Gilroy and other facilities throughout Gilroy. In this free 8 hour workshop you will learn the basics needed to work in retail. Customer service, cash register operation and cash handling, dealing with difficult customers, work attitudes, ethics and more. Certificates will be presented upon completion of the workshop. Honoring the Elders Gathering: The 19th annual Honoring the Elder Gathering will be held on June 4 and 5 at Mount Madonna County Park on Hecker Pass in Gilroy. California dancers and drummers will provide entertainment. Call 408-287-8366 for more information.

FIesta in the Olive Grove: The Historic Old Mission San Juan Bautista will hold its annual Fiesta in the Olive Grove from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 27 in San Juan Bautista. Board of Directors Meeting: In accordance with By-laws revised on May 14, 2003, the San Benito County Fair Board of Directors will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. June 9 at Bolado Park. Call 831-628-3421 for more information.

Safe Rides: The Haybaler Alumni will be offering safe rides for any or all high school graduates to any destination after 4 p.m. on June 10 and after 5 p.m. on June 11. Call 510-825-3008 for more information.

EARLY GAS ENGINES AND TRACTORS: On June 11, 12 and 13 the San Benito County Historical Society will host the Branch 3 Early Days Gas Engine and Tractor Assoc. at the Historical Park 0.9 miles south of Tres Pinos on Hwy 25. The public is invited to watch these enthusiast show off their hobby. On Sat. June 12 from Noon to 1:30 p.m. a Tri- Tip BBQ will be held at the park as well. MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE: San Benito Youth Council/San Benito Prevention Coalition will sponsor the monthly Club Live dance from 7 to 9:45 pm on Friday, June 4, 2004 at the Hollister Community Center, 300 West Street. The dance is for San Benito County middle school students only. Admission is $5. A school identification card with photo is required and no one will be admitted without it. The dance is part of the Youth Council’s drug-free activities for San Benito County youth.

HOUSE AND GARDEN TOUR: The first annual “Let’s be Friends” House and Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3 throughout Hollister. Tickets are available for $25 at Dorothy McNett’s Place and proceeds will benefit the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library. Call 637-1794 for more information.

Soccer Sign up: The San Juan Soccer Club will hold a sign up day for boy and girls ages 4 to 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at the Pizza Factory. Interested players must bring a check or money order for $65 ($40 for each additional child) payable to the San Juan Soccer Club, recent wallet size photo, completed and signed membership form and new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Kite Day: The Pacheco State Park will host a Kite Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 19 at Pacheco Park. Everyone who flies a kite receives a souvenir button. Trophies will be given for “Best Kite made by an individual under 15,” “Best Kite over 15,” Best Kite made by a group.” For contest rules go to www.parks.ca.gov/events and see June 19. Miss San Benito Rodeo 2004: The public is welcome to attend the competition for the Miss San Benito Rodeo title at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 5 at Bolado Park. The poise, personality and appearance section will begin at 9 a.m. in the Blue Room followed by the horsemanship competition in the arena. Following the competition, Miss San Benito Rodeo 2004 will be crowned in the Blue Room. The winner will preside over the San Benito County Saddle Horse and Rodeo to be held June 25, 26, 27 at Bolado Park.

Sober Grad volunteers Needed: All parents are asked to help support the Sober Grad Night in the Mattson Gym located at the High School to keep this night a safe and sober one for all. Doors open at 8 p.m. and will run until 4 a.m. on June 11. There will be door prizes, games, music and loads of fun for everyone. Please call Dorian at 831-637-0856 with questions.

High School Graduation: The San Benito High School graduation ceremonies are to be held at 10 a.m. at the high school soccer field on June 11, 2004. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. by ticket only, no exceptions. There will be no saving of seats allowed as the seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Free shuttles will run from the parking areas located at the Presbytarian and Latter Day Saints churches on San Benito Street and Cienega Road. Handicap parking will be available.

Friends of the Library Meeting: The board meeting of the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library will meet at noon Thursday, June 17 in the Barbara Memorial Room at the Hollister Library on 470 Fifth Street. The public is invited and urged to attend. Call 637-1794 for more information.

ANIMALS IN NEED: The Hollister Animal Shelter is looking for a few good volunteers. Is there any reason you couldn’t donate about two hours a week to help walk dogs or cuddle cats… good exercise for you too. (Must be 18 years old, or at least 13 accompanied by an adult.)
