Scouting for Food: Local boy scouts and cub scouts will be
scouting for food in your neighborhood Saturday, Jan. 31. Please
leave any canned goods by your front door in a bag. The scouts will
pick up your donations and deliver them to the county food bank for
distribution to local families in need. Cans or plastic containers
only. No glass bottles or perishable food.

Chris Sharma: Chris Sharma will be at Mt. Madonna School on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to meet with students and show thme his slides of his rock climbing adventures from around the world.

Valentine Dinner: Old Mission San Juan Bautista is presenting its third annual Valentine Dinner Dance on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Casa Maria in San Juan Bautista. The evening begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. followed by dancing. Tickets are available after all Masses or can be purchased at the mission office during business hours. Tickets are $75 per person. All proceeds support mission restoration projects.

USDA: USDA Farm Service Agency has been accepting applications from local farmers who suffered at least a 35 percent loss of production or significant quality loss on a 2001 or 2002 year crop due to a natural disaster weather condition. The deadline to file an application is Friday, Jan. 30. Interested farmers must contact the local Farm Service Agency office at 831-637-4360 to schedule an appointment prior to the deadline date.

Historical Society: The San Benito County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Dunne Park Club House, at Sixth and West streets. The guest will be Joe McMahan, a descendant of the Castros of Monterey and San Juan Bautista. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Babe Ruth: Last chance for Babe Ruth Baseball sign-ups will be held Thursday, Jan. 29 at Straw Hat Pizza from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clearview Drive: The City of Hollister will be holding a neighborhood meeting to discuss Clearview Drive traffic calming. The meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 375 Fifth Street. For more information, call Matt Atteberry at 831-636-4340.

Italian Night: The Italian Catholic Federation will hold its annual “Night in Italy” dinner dance Saturday, Jan. 31 at Sacred Heart Church’s O’Reilly Youth Center, Sixth and College streets.

Hors d’ oeuvres and no-host cocktails will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 8 p.m. and dancing. The menu includes barbecued chicken, homemade ravioli, salad, wine and dessert. Proceeds benefit local charities.
