Work Permits: Pursuant to California Labor Code Mandates, students between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age who plan to work this summer must have a “Permit to Employ and Work” on file with the employer during the term of their employment. Students must apply for these permits at the school they attend. Students under the age of 14 are only allowed to work in the agriculture-related or entertainment field. Rural students may obtain work permits through their school principal. Employers without work permits for student employees face potential fines of $100 to $500.
