Realtors offer homeowners help online
HOLLISTER – Local CDPE-designated agents and community advocates Ray and Peggy Pierce of Intero Real Estate Services have announced the expansion of an online resource for San Benito and South Santa Clara county homeowners facing financial hardships at www.ray-peggy.com.
According to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s quarterly report on mortgage defaults, 14 percent of mortgage loans are not current on payments. This means that a substantial number of homeowners are at risk of foreclosure.
“Many of these homeowners took on their loans when jobs were more secure and plentiful,” Pierce said. “Now, with unemployment reported at 9.9 percent, we’re seeing that more and more responsible homeowners are finding themselves with unaffordable mortgages.”
The Pierce’s website contains eligibility surveys for government programs that offer help to distressed homeowners. One of those is the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program, or HAFA, which streamlines the process and provides incentives for short sales.

iLegent partners with City
HOLLISTER – The city of Hollister has partnered with iLegent and Neighborhood Housing Services to bring financial literacy to residents using innovative mortgage calculators and financial planning tools.
Residents can use the HomeBuyer Go platform online at www.homebuyergo.com or access it from the city’s housing page.
“HomeBuyer Go is a great tool for city residents who are preparing for home ownership,” said Francisco Casas, the project coordinator for the city of Hollister’s Housing and Redevelopment agency.
The site focuses on generating easy to read and visually appealing presentations that help residents understand how factors such as mortgage payment, tax benefits and monthly budget fit together to affect their monthly finances. The tool is meant to help curb the high foreclosure rate by helping potential homeowners understand the financial variables involved in purchasing a home. Those who use the site can connect with Neighborhood Housing Services of Silicon Valley homeowner counselors that can answer questions for them.
iLegent, the developer of HomeBuyer Go, started in 2005 with the goal of developing technology to help consumers become financially literate. Neighborhood Housing Services of Silicon Valley works to improve the living environment of low and moderate income families.
