Safeway in Hollister has started a project to expand the parking lot, though the precise size of the additional area is unclear.
Crews have been out this week working on the expansion, which did not necessitate any sort of official examination by the city, said Greg Johnson, the building inspector.
Safeway has been at the location since 2000, when it replaced the former K&S Market there. The expansion is simply to meet the parking demand generated from customers, Johnson said.
The Pleasanton-based company did not have to pull any permits for the work because it does not plan to do a “significant” amount of work, the building inspector noted. If Safeway had been doing much more work, though, it would have had to applied for a grading permit.
“Actually, they didn’t because they weren’t moving a lot of dirt,” Johnson said. “It’s not a big, significant thing.”
