San Juan’s gas station gets pumping

The long-awaited opening of a new gas station in San Juan Bautista, which had been without one for about two years, took place July 3, last Friday.

The owner of the new Valero gas station, Kahmiri Bhatia, noted how he signed the lease in January but it took about six months to get the station and mini-mart up and running.

Aside from the station and store, the location also provides two car wash bays and plans to have a mechanic on site in a couple of months, Bhatia said.

He also hopes to bring in an Ace Hardware store in six to 12 months, he said.

He noted the primary attraction was a lacking fill-up spot in the Mission City.

“So townspeople, they’ll be happy,” he said.

Bhatia also owns a laundromat and gas station in Salinas, along with a market and taqueria location as well.
