Mars Hill coffee shop opened to the public May 21.

ars Hill coffee shop opens as nonprofit
In the space formerly occupied by Kelly’s Gift Place and
Cornerstone Coffee, Mars Hill opened May 21 on the corner of Sixth
and San Benito Streets. The new operation, run as a nonprofit by
several area churches, uses the slogan

arts, conversation and coffee

for the open-atmosphere coffee house and entertainment spot,
explained Kelly Owczarzak, who had owned the gift and beverage shop
before with her husband and now helps to manage Mars Hill.
The former operation closed Feb. 28 and the building had been
under renovation until the opening last week. Along with the coffee
selection, Mars Hill boasts an array of games on scattered tables
available to customers and plans for regular musical entertainment,
she said. The nonprofit also plans to host themed game nights, and
Owczarzak noted how Mars Hill has a conference room available to
community members for free. Because it is a nonprofit, she noted
how any profits would go toward other area nonprofit
organizations.
Mars Hill’s hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday
and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
