Travis J. Hoffmeister, 23, of Hollister, who has pleaded not guilty to the brutal killing of Christella Macias in June, was granted a continuance on Wednesday by Judge Sanders at the San Benito County Courthouse.

Sanders and attorneys moved the preliminary hearing to Nov. 24 due to “extensive new discoveries,” said Public Defender Greg LaForge, who’s representing Hoffmeister.

Macias was found dead on C Street covered only by a plastic bag pulled over her head and a shirt when she was found on a June 22, 2007. Hoffmeister was arrested by the Hollister Police Department as a result of forensic evidence and remains in jail in lieu of a $1,000,000 bail set by Sanders.

LaForge said the new evidence relates to tapes.
