Rooftop summer concerts

The San Benito County Arts Council presents the 2009 Summer Concert Series on the rooftop of the Briggs building parking garage in downtown Hollister. Concerts are 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Stir It Up Band, roots/soul, Aug. 28.

Charity Golf Classic

Communications Unlimited and the Hollister community are partnering with local businesses to raise money for three charities, including Standing in the Gap-Now, Compassion Pregnancy and Emmaus House. The Charity Golf Classic will be held Aug. 28, at the Diablo Golf Course at Ridgemark with $2,500 in prizes. It will include a barbecue lunch, games and entertainment followed by an evening dinner and dance. Tickets are $150 for all events, or $500 for four. Buddhism – Stories and Scripture lecture

‘La Carpa de los Rasquachis’

El Teatro Campesino will present ‘La Carpa de los Rasquachis” for free on the lawn of the Luck Library in San Juan Bautista Sunday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. The performances will kick off a tour of the classic El Teatro Campesino piece written by Luis Valdez. The show is an immigrant’s story – the epic tale of the Chicano farm worker in the United States. The story follows Jesus Pelado Rasquachi through is trials and tells parts of the story through corridos, or Mexican ballads. Donations will be accepted at the show. “Mamma Mia!” – All Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) wants before she gets married is to have her father walk her down the aisle but her mother (Meryl Streep) has always been secretive about her past. When Sophie finds an old diary she decides to invite all three of her mother’s beaus to the island hotel they run in Greece so she can discover which is the real deal in this musical inspired by the music of ABBA. Historical society walking tour

The San Juan Bautista Historical Society will host a walking tour of the mission presented by Fr. Ed and Ruben Mendoza. Participants are asked to meet at the Mission grounds at 10:45 a.m.. The tour of the grounds and mission archive will start at 11 a.m. and continue until 12:30 p.m. The tour will be followed by a barbecue in the olive grove by the Vaccarezza family. The 3rd annual Hollister PBR Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tour will be at the San Benito County Fairgrounds Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. There are other events throughout the day, beginning with a mutton busting event for children ages 7 and under. At 2 p.m., there will be live music, vendor booths, a kiddie corral and a barbecue, where fans can meet some of the riders. The Monterey Bay Master Gardeners will hold its annual tour Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme this year is “Garden Sanctuaries of the Monterey Peninsula.” The self-guided tour features nine private gardens, including cottage gardens, wooded coastal landscapes and historic sites. Graniterock will be hosting its fourth annual 10K Rock & Run to benefit Aromas School at the A.R. 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The YMCA of San Benito County will host its 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, 3800 Airline Hwy., Friday, Sept. 18.
