‘Ax of Murder’

San Benito Stage Company proudly presents “Ax of Murder” opening on Feb. 19 at the Granada Theatre. ‘Give Kids a Smile Day’

The San Benito Health Foundation will hold their 9th annual “Give Kids a Smile Day” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children ages 0-12 are welcome for a free dental screening. Native Daughters Centennial Celebration

The San Juan Bautista Parlor No. 179 Native Daughters of the Golden West will be hosting the open celebration of its Centennial and its official visit of Grand President Alice Forbes Feb. 20, at San Juan Oaks, 3825 Union Road, in Hollister. The social will start at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. RSVPs are requested by Feb. 10. The Monterey Bay Area council, which includes Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with an Anniversary Gala and Eagle Recognition Dinner on Sat., Feb. 20, at the Monterey Conference Center. A midway with scouting demonstrations and displays will begin at 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public. The dinner, awards ceremony and Eagle recognition will start at 6 p.m. in the Serra Ballroom. The public is invited to attend the A.I.W.F’s Feb. 21 restaurant rendezvous, a brunch at the Clement Restaurant in the Intercontinental Hotel. Rehearsals continue for Oriana Chorale

Oriana Chorale will start rehearsals for its spring production of the comedic opera, “Trial by Jury,” on Feb. 8 at 7:15 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2300 Airline Hwy., in Hollister. The show has a judge, a jury, a plantiff bride who has been wronged, and a dastardly defendant.

‘Path of the Padres’

The “Path of the Padres” hikes will be held on some Fridays and most Saturdays and Sundays starting on Feb. 27 and will continue through April 18. The hikes are open to the public, ages 6 years and older by advance reservation only. School group hikes may be arranged during the week. School group reservations and general public reservations are now open. At least 10 people must be involved in the hike to be able to conduct a tour. The hike begins at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir boat launch ramp at 8 a.m. and returns to the ramp at about 3:30 p.m. To make a reservation, call (209)-826-1197 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a reservation fee of $12 per person 12 years old, and $7 per child age 6-12. Eroica trio master class and concert

Learn about the early Hispanic settlers

Los Californianos, a group for descendants whose ancestors were in California by 1848, will be meeting in San Juan Bautista from April 23-25 to host their quarterly meeting. Activities include Dr. Ruben Mendoza’s latest discoveries at the Mission, and of the State Park by Joe McMahon, a short hike on the De Anza trail with a walk-through of the Casa de Anza. There will also be a Saturday breakfast and a Sunday brunch and an extensive Los Californianos traveling genealogy library will be available on Friday and Saturday. ‘Treasure island’ The 2010 Forest Theater Guild’s Centennial Season will be presenting Treasure Island the play in Carmel at the Outdoor Forest Theater from May 28 to June 20. Treasure Island is a story about a band of unsavory pirates who are pitted against the young hero Jim Hawkins. The tale is told through the eyes of Hawkins aboard the Hispaniola guided by a treasure map to Treasure Island. Tickets will begin being sold in late February.
