The Veterans of Foreign Wars will be hosting a Saint Patrick’s Day Encampment in honor of the holiday Gen. George Washington allowed his troops on March 17, 1780. ‘Path of the Padres’
The “Path of the Padres” hikes will be held on some Fridays and most Saturdays and Sundays starting on Feb. 27 and will continue through April 18. The hikes are open to the public, ages 6 years and older by advance reservation only. School group hikes may be arranged during the week. School group reservations and general public reservations are now open. At least 10 people must be involved in the hike to be able to conduct a tour. The hike begins at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir boat launch ramp at 8 a.m. and returns to the ramp at about 3:30 p.m. To make a reservation, call (209)-826-1197 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a reservation fee of $12 per person 12 years old, and $7 per child age 6-12. Humanitarian evening to benefit others
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting a Relief Society, Young Women and Community Humanitarian evening April 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at 1670 Cienega Road, in Hollister. Participants will assemble hygiene kits, sew dresses, make quilts and sew school bags that will be donated to disaster relief in Chile, Haiti and local organizations. Easter egg hunt
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will be hosting an annual Easter egg hunt at the Veterans Memorial Park, on Memorial Drive, April 3, at 1 p.m., for children ages 2 to 10. The children will be broken up into age groups in different hunting areas (ages 2-4, 5-7, and 8-10). Parents will not be allowed in the hunting area and the event starts exactly at 1 p.m. For children who do not get any eggs, there will be some available at the command post.

Charming Chairs and Quilt exhibit
The 3rd annual Charming Chairs and Quilt exhibit will be held in conjunction with the San Benito County Open Studios Tour Preview at the Blak Sage Gallery April 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For the Charming Chairs event, artists have painted more than 20 unique, one-of-a-kind chairs for a two-week silent auction. Bidding will begin April 10 and the chairs will be displayed in front of various downtown businesses on San Benito and Fifth streets. Customers, collectors and the curious will have until April 24 to bid on their favorite chair. The money goes to the Downtown Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation for San Benito County. Artwork by the 12 artists participating in the San Benito County Open Studios tour April 24 and 25 will also have items on display.

The Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Community Center in San Juan Bautista. Learn about the early Hispanic settlers
Los Californianos, a group for descendants whose ancestors were in California by 1848, will be meeting in San Juan Bautista from April 23-25 to host their quarterly meeting. Activities include Dr. Ruben Mendoza’s latest discoveries at the Mission, and of the State Park by Joe McMahon, a short hike on the De Anza trail with a walk-through of the Casa de Anza. There will also be a Saturday breakfast and a Sunday brunch, and an extensive Los Californianos traveling genealogy library will be available on Friday and Saturday.
