show opens The Hollister Art League will be hosting the “Showcasing Our Local Artists” art show now through Nov. 14, at the Blak Sage Gallery, 727 San Benito St., in Hollister. Coyote Creek bird walk Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent and a Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer, will be hosting a Coyote Creek birdwalk Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. The San Juan Bautista Rotary Club will host a guided walking tour of several local sites where ghost sightings have been rumored. Lighthouse Ghost Tour
The Fourth Annual Ghost Tour at Point Sur Lightstation State Historic Park, 19 miles south of Rio Road, on Hwy. 1, is Oct. 24 and 25 at 5:15 p.m. Tours last about three hours. The cost of the event is a tax-deductible donation of $55 to benefit the restoration of the park. The evening begins with a walking tour of the lighthouse at sunset, with refreshments served at the barn. Kevin Hanstick, a professional actor/story teller, will recount real stories of Pt. Autumn Art Festival
The Autumn Art Festival is in Aromas Grange Hall, on the corner of Rose and Bardue avenues. Doc Severinsen will be doing a special performance in the program “El ritmo de la vida” or “The Rhythm of Life” in support of the Monterey Symphony’s music and education programs on Oct. 25, at Carmel’s Sunset Theater. The YMCA’s no tricks, just treats event will be Oct. 31, in downtown Hollister. The event inlcudes a costume contest and family activities from 10 a.m. to noon. The parade of costumes is at 11 a.m., with costume judging at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be given to the top three winners in two categories. Carmel birthday celebration and Halloween parade The 93rd Carmel-by-the-sea birthday celebration and Halloween parade is Oct. 31. The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Ocean Ave., and adults, children, and leashed dogs are welcome to participate. Participants may wear a costume. Complimentary ice cream will follow the parade for all participants. A hot dog lunch and entertainment will be held at the Sunset Center parking lot located on San Carlos between 8th and 10th streets, beginning at noon. A limited number of lunches are available, with tickets sold at Carmel-by-the-Sea City Hall and at the event.
