Our first Red Phone caller, a Hollister man, asked the Crimson Crusader to help him stop people from drinking alcohol during recreational softball games at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Crimson Crusader called Hollister Police Officer Rosie Betanio to see what could be done to help our caller. Betanio said she would make sure all officers were aware of the problem and would increase patrols in the area during game times. Signs posted at the park clearly indicate that drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited. Violators could be arrested and fined, Betanio said.
Red Phone/Green
Phone Confusion
Our next Red Phone caller chastised the Crimson Crusader for failing to cover a late night San Francisco Giants game this week. Sports calls should, in the future, be directed to the Green Phone at 687-0836. For those who missed the game, it should be noted here, the Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4.
Check out the
New Web Site
Our next Red Phone matter concerns the new online Red Phone forum. Our hero isn’t going to mince words about this new feature: It’s pretty sweet. Check it out on the Hollister Free Lance’s Web site at www.freelancenews.com.
Now locals can post a message online that goes right to the Crusader. Don’t worry, dearest readers – Red Phone calls, letters and candygrams are still welcome.
When will my
street be repaved?
Our next Red Phone question came from the fancy new Web site. Our correspondent from the World Wide Web asked the Crimson Crusader why the city doesn’t release a list of streets it is planning to repave.
Our hero thinks this is a great idea. The Crimson Crusader passed the idea along to David Rubcic, associate civil engineer for the city of Hollister. In the meantime, questions about which streets are going to be repaved should be directed to the Hollister Engineering Department at 636-4340 or [email protected]. County street questions should be directed to County Public Works at 636-4170.
