Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center’s Christina Andrade, a family consultant, will be hosting a workshop for family caregivers Aug. 22, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Hollister Community Center, 300 West St., in Hollister. The free workshop will discuss the five steps of a successful caregiver such as understanding dementia and what it means, addressing financial and legal issues related to dementia, keeping other family members informed and involved, accessing resources in the community and caring for the caregiver. The event is sponsored by Community Foundation for San Benito County, Health Projects Center (which sponsors the Del Mar Caregivers Resource Center), Jovenes de Antano and United Way of San Benito County. The Del Mar Caregiver Resource Centers hosts workshops throughout the year to help support family caregivers. They host a Caregiver University once a year that includes a day of workshops for caregivers.
Another workshop will be held on coping with daily challenges of caring for a loved one with memory impairment on Sept. 26, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The deadline to register for this workshop is Sept. 19.
The center also oversees ongoing support groups, including:
Parkinson’s Education and Support Group, meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Hollister Community Center.
Memory impairment – caregivers support group, meets the second Thursday of each month, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Hollister Community Center.
Latino caregivers support group, meets the third Thursday of each month, from 2 to 3:30 p.m, at the Hollister Community Center.
