Cerra Vista was one of the schools recognized for high achievement and student success.

Students at Cerra Vista Elementary School might be seeing stars of a good kind this week.
A three-person team from the NASA/Ames Research Center will be speaking about space exploration, biology and bioengineering April 29.
“Science is very much alive and supported in the new Common Core State Standards,” said Ken Johnson, a fifth grade teacher, in a press release from the school.
Johnson has already been working to get younger students more involved in science and served as the school’s project mentor for last month’s San Benito County Science Fair. The campus’ students claimed three first-place awards, three second-place prizes and two third-place ones in “a very high showing for one school,” according to the statement.
“The NASA visit is very important,” Johnson said. “It shows students real life applications of science and exposes them to career paths.”
