The Hollister junior midgets, who were grand champions in all three West Coast competitions, fell just short of their dream of winning a national championship last week at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.

They had the second-best raw score in their division, but a dropped hairpiece during the routine, which equaled a five-point deduction, dropped them down to ninth place.

Nonetheless, coach Pepper Soto was quite proud of the team’s accomplishments, and feels confident that they can win it all next year.

The junior pee wees, meanwhile, with their young team of mostly first-year cheerleaders, competed on Monday morning, and took 10th place in the novice division.

This year marked the seventh season in a row that the Hollister Vikings have sent two teams to the national championships.
