This is in response to the person who wrote in about the tragic
accident that happened recently. This person claims there were
youth activities and her teens once threw a party. OK, lets go back
a ways.
I was a teen during the years 1984-1988. There was nothing to do
in this town. We drank every weekend. We bought beer at Righetti’s
and Dabo’s liquors and we all drove out to the water tower off
Fairview and got drunk.

It amazes me this town has not grown to fit the needs of the youth. I got drunk with about 40 kids every weekend. There were tons of kids always drunk or smoking marijuana. Those of us who played in the band at the high school were very aware of how much beer was consumed during practice, football games, parties, etc. Heck, our teachers knew also and turned the other cheek. NOT ONE parent knew to which degree we consumed alcohol.

We were lucky, some of our friends were not.

It is the fault of Hollister for not providing fun youth-oriented activities such as an arcade, an under 18 dance place, bowling without a bar in it, hang out places to listen to music and just have fun. NONE of these exist here.

WAKE up Hollister! This is a real problem. No one wants the police coming to your house with this type of news.

This accident should not have happened. It was not the luck of the draw. This place needs to wake up and provide youth activities or it will remain a dead end town with nothing.”

“This is about city budget cuts. OK, I’ve been a softball participant for over 30 years. And usually for our overall championship game, we have two umpires. Well, Clay Lee and Robert Ornelas said we’re losing one umpire because of the budget cuts. OK then. Why has the recreation coordinator, Brandi Grissom, and Lacey, don’t know her last name, both been getting paid out there and talking on their cell phones.

The truth will come out. And also I’d like to thank your paper, your column for doing a great job. If it wasn’t for your column, a lot of people wouldn’t come out and say anything.”
