The article in the Free Lance of Sept. 30 pertaining to the
county records accessibility is truly interesting.
Why does the county deem it necessary to appoint deputy county
council Darren Bogie to the case? This is taxpayer money going to
another attorney to defend the county of possible wrongdoing.
“The article in the Free Lance of Sept. 30 pertaining to the county records accessibility is truly interesting.

Why does the county deem it necessary to appoint deputy county council Darren Bogie to the case? This is taxpayer money going to another attorney to defend the county of possible wrongdoing.

There are laws dictated by the State that the county is supposed to follow. If the county is following the procedures of the law, why do they need an attorney to defend them? Why not open the doors to the public records as prescribed by law, therefore not needing an attorney to defend them and waste our money? I also find it interesting that the county was trying to settle this out of court. Usually, the primary reason for doing this is to keep the public from knowing the truth, which brings to mind another question. What are they covering up? Maybe Mr. Baley has a strong point in his statement about tampering before publication!

If Mr. Baley is able to bring his case to court, a lot of these questions may get answered and politics as usual may change for the good in this country. Sometimes all it takes is one citizen with the will to make a difference. We need to hold our servants of the public trust to high levels and not let the few in high places control what they don’t want the public to know.

I hope Free Lance reporter Kollin Kosmicki will continue his coverage on this case and let the public know what is happening with the progress of the case.”

“Seriously, there is to be no more avoiding the issue. District Attorney Sarsfield is the “flavor of the month” on his own merits.

Mr. Sarsfield, are you going to look into all of the cases Sheriff Hill has been involved with since his criminal charges were filed or not?

If not, then maybe we need to investigate District Attorney recall procedures.”

“I’m not surprised at all that the Cannery is refusing to pay their sewer bill. The City of Hollister should not back down, roll over and play dead, or ignore this issue as has been done in years past.

It’s past time for the cannery to become a good citizen and a responsible business member of the community. That includes sewer bills, noise pollution and road issues.

The city does have tremendous leverage over the cannery in road issues. Just revoke the “agreement” to close Sally Street for months at a time. This is a public road, we (the public) pay taxes to drive on that road and to maintain it, yet we have no use of it most of the year. I also believe the closure creates a delay in emergency response, particularly for the fire department.

Throw the road issue at them and a check for the sewer payment might be written in a flash. Good incentive to fix the noise problem too.

If the cannery can’t resolve, discuss and mitigate noise and sewer issues maybe they are in the wrong location. Road issues may be unsolvable due to the way they are spread out for blocks across major intersections. This is a result of poor planning in the past by the city and the cannery. These problems didn’t happen overnight, everyone just pretended they didn’t matter or said the jobs were worth it. In the long run, is it all worth it?

Would the city really miss the revenue the cannery brings in and does the revenue cover the costs to the city and the community? Has an economic study been done by a competent neutral party or auditor?

Hard decisions to make. But it’s time the issues were faced head on for everyone’s benefit. Right now it’s a losing situation on both sides and only getting worse.”
