Finally Hollister has become a popular place to visit. We have been seen on popular TV programs, such as the Travel Channel, Hot Rod TV and Motor Sports World. Thousands of people come from all over the country for our Fourth of July motorcycle rally, as far away as Japan.
These people stay in our motels, eat at our eating establishments, buy gas, buy food at our stores, drink at our bars and shop at our stores. They spend a lot of money doing so.
Now to the point I would like to make. All these business people taking all of this money in, and in most cases making in three days more than they do in a whole month, are the major taxpayers for our city government. The same major taxpayers that pay the wages for the dumb City Council members.
I am saying to you, City Council members, wake up and get real. We need these bikers to come in and enjoy themselves.
We voted you into office to help us grow as a community. NOW’s the time to stand up and fight for us. Or would you rather go and hide in the restroom and wait until the Fifth of July to come out of hiding? Support HIRC.
As far as law enforcement goes, I have been to many motorcycle rallies out of state. To be honest with you, I have seen more police in Hollister during the July 4th rally than I have seen in Sturgus, Laughlin, Reno or even Angels Camp in California. You leave them alone and the bikers will police themselves. This is not 1947; I think someone should point this out to our paranoid Sheriff.
Bikers are good people for the most part. We have not had any real problems with the bikers in the past, so why should we need a full company of police officers?
