Hollister City Hall is getting a makeover and technology upgrade, with new TV screens in the council chambers as a showcase for the project.
There have been two facets to the work. Hollister City Hall’s council chambers was being spruced up this week—with two, two-sided TV screens to replace the projection system and a larger screen behind the dais where officials sit. Additionally, the city replaced cabinets and counters in the back conference room of the chambers and switched conference room tables, City Manager Bill Avera said.
The dais itself has a fresh look as well.
“It was all stained,” said Avera as he showed the upgrades this week.
Some other work includes cleaning to the chamber audience chairs, while the city hopes to have all that work done by the next council meeting Tuesday and plans to keep the budget within $10,000, Avera said.
Meanwhile, the city is redoing the roofs on three buildings: Hollister City Hall, Old City Hall where the planning department works, and the Community Center that is the home of Jovenes de Antano senior center. Those improvements were planned for a while due to severe leaking problems, he said.
Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velazquez said the city hall chambers were “looking pretty rundown” and emphasized it is part of a broader change.
“We’re cleaning up the city all the way around and we’re trying to present a more positive image to the public,” he said.
